Now What?
I was having a conversation with my sister in-law last week about a few things I've been waiting for: answered prayers, blessings, clarity, etc. I said, "I feel like I've been placed in a waiting season for a couple of years now."
She said, "I think we constantly feel in the waiting season because as soon as we receive one of the blessings we have been waiting for, our mind starts to focus on the next thing we've been or begin to ask God for. Then, instead of fully appreciating the blessing, the waiting season starts all over again."
In this moment, I was humbled by the Holy Spirit. It's not like I intentionally dismiss God's blessings because I can see them, and I thank Him for them. But I know that, in the past, I haven't intentionally stopped or slowed my life, worries, and thoughts down to fully give God the thanks and praise He deserves for the mountains that He moves.
Many of us do 1-of-3 things after receiving a blessing:
1. We truly receive, appreciate, and show gratitude for it, giving God the praise, worship, and glory.
2. We know it's a blessing from God, quickly thank Him, but then just move on to the next thing on the list, allowing it to kind of replace our gratitude for what God has done.
3. Receive the blessing, but what's called "bamboozle" it. This is when we kind of abuse a blessing or don't use it the way it was intended.
Think of it like a list of homework assignments on our to-do list. Once we finish the assignment at the top of the list, we move on to the next one. It's like that, but with blessings and the next thing we need from God. In addition to us being human, I know that Satan tries to fill our minds, giving us the next worry to think about. Why? So that we don't go to God with worship, something he strongly dislikes.
God continually blesses us every day, big and small. Within each blessing He gives, the question is now what? Are we going to just keep looking to the next thing that we are waiting for God to do, or are we going to slow down, have true gratitude, and give God the glory and praise He deserves, creating more of a slow life?
"Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise! For the Lord is a great God and a great King above all gods."
